An upcoming event in Atlanta that I’m looking forward to seeing is The Art of Golf a collection of unique masterpieces depicting golf though artists eyes and brushstrokes. From The High: “the program is organized by the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, in collaboration with the National Galleries of Scotland. The exhibition is made possible by Lead Sponsor Sotheby’s. Tiger Woods Update & A Preview to the 2012 MastersCraig KiblerThe PGA season is now officially under way after Tiger competed in his first tournament of 2012. Sure the golf season actually started 3 weeks prior, but until Tiger proves he can’t win again the spotlight will continuously be on Woods. Regardless of performance he is still one of the most popular athletes in the world. But let’s take a moment to examine Tiger’s only performance of 2012 thus far. In his first competitive round of the year Tiger shot a 70 in Dubai. Two under par is certainly nothing spectacular but still a great starting point for Tiger as he tries to return to dominance. He then followed the 70 up with a 69 and 66 in the second and third rounds before faltering in the final round. His final round 72 featured some ball striking issues but his putting was looking great. I think this weekend showed us two things when it comes to Tiger Woods. First of all he is making strides and his swing looks much better. We can confirm that he still has all the tools to be the best in the game. We also know that he needs to learn how to win again. After all he has been through its easy to understand why his mental toughness might not be what it once was. It is clear that the killer instinct we saw for all those years is a little bit timid these days. The massive humbling that Tiger has faced the last 2 or 3 years has put him in an uphill battle, but look for a great year from Woods in 2012.Now that the PGA season is in full swing the golf community can’t help but to start looking at the 2012 Masters. This year the Masters will be held from April 5th- 8th, which is only a 65 days away. So in a just 2 short months the players will be lining up to tee off in the 76th annual Masters Golf tournament at the famously beautiful Augusta National.According to pgatour.com, there are currently 93 players that have qualified for this year’s Masters. It is important to note that 4 of those players will have to remain at amateur status in order to compete. There is still opportunity for other golfers to qualify before the Masters but at the moment we are just under last year’s total of 99 competitors. For those of you who don’t know, here are the ways you can qualify for the Masters:· Masters Tournament Champions (Lifetime)· U.S. Open Champions (Honorary, non-competing after five years)· The Open Champions (Honorary, non-competing after five years)· PGA Champions (Honorary, non-competing after five years)· Winners of the Players Championship (Three years)· Current U.S. Amateur Champion (6-A) (Honorary, non-competing after one year); Runner-up (6-B) to the current U.S. Amateur Champion· Current British Amateur Champion (Honorary, non-competing after one year)· Current Asian Amateur Champion· Current U.S. Amateur Public Links Champion· Current U.S. Mid-Amateur Champion· The first 16 players, including ties, in the previous year’s Masters Tournament· The first 8 players, including ties, in the previous year’s U.S. Open· The first 4 players, including ties, in the previous year’s Open Championship· The first 4 players, including ties, in the previous year’s PGA Championship· The 30 leaders on the Final Official PGA Tour Money List for the previous calendar year· Winners of PGA Tour Regular Season and Playoff events that award at least a full-point allocation for the season-ending Tour Championship, from previous Masters to current Masters· Those qualifying for the previous year’s season-ending Tour Championship· The 50 leaders on the Final Official World Golf Ranking for the previous calendar year· The 50 leaders on the Official World Golf Ranking published during the week prior to the current Masters TournamentMaster’s Notes:Coming into the 2012 Masters it would be hard to pick a favorite but at this point it looks like it will probably be Rory McIlroy. He looks good early and his monumental collapse at the 2011 Masters should have him motivated and focused for the 2012 Masters. If Rory can get his first green jacket this year it will be the first time a European has won the Masters since Jose Maria Olazbal in 1999. Besides Rory I would say “Lefty” has the next best chance to win this year. Phil already has 3 green jackets and is the most recent golfer to reach that milestone (2004, 2006, & 2010). *Tiger was the last to win back-to-back Masters (2001-02).Tiger will return to the Master’s not as the reigning champ for the sixth consecutive year. Seems hard to believe but it also indicates just how high our expectations are for this generations best golfer. Tiger is a 4 time winner at the Masters and needs only two more victories to tie the “Golden Bear” Jack Nicklaus. There was a moment when it seemed inevitable that he would easily get to 6 and most likely surpass Nicklaus as the most accomplished Masters performer. *Tiger’s last win was in 2009 and his last major championship was in 2007.Now there is a major challenge in front of Tiger to make it 6. Who knows how important that milestone is to Tiger but I do know that Tigers wants to win and he needs to win. The golf universe is ready for Tiger to take hold of the sport he dominated for so long. I think the only question now is can he do it? The first true test for any golfer is the Masters, but this will truly be the first true test in Tiger’s quest to regain dominance and fulfill his destiny to become the greatest golfer ever.About the Author:Craig Kibler is the lead blogger for Sportstraveler.net, a leading provider of Masters tickets and trip packages.
Back in the day in NE Ohio, I played with a group of gamblers that introduced me to the few cordialities of the game. One was when the length of your putt was considered good, they called it “inside the leather”, and that…to me, was one of the greatest gimmies in golf. The confidence of a knee-knocker-2-foot- putt was hard to stomach when your surrounded by cigar-chompin’ back-room poker players by nite, duffers by day old men. The day when one of the men spoke up and said “kid, it’s inside the leather”, I was born-again…and richer. To this day, I still use it as an act of valor when I have someone stymied…if they knock it within 2′, I give them the leather. They always end up buying me a drink for the act of kindness. So now, here we are with the biggest golf headliner of the ages…should we ban belly-putters. Well, it depends, if you play by the inside the leather rule, then I’d say your 2′ just became 4′ (have you seen the length of leather on these fishing poles?!) and you’ll get many drinks for your acts of kindness giving these gimmies. This will speed up the game, and allow all players to make a personal decision on whether to play the game with a bad back, or to grind it into sawdust, and to hate the game. If you don’t play inside the leather, then you are a stuffy old bastard who is ok hitting the RocktBallz 500 yards, but can’t take someone putting for dough having an advantage over you because “it’s not a natural stroke”.Pandora’s box has been open, and until someone says no to all things improving golf technology, then we’ll all just need to get along……and give those 4-footers the leather. Thanks for reading. Keep it in the short-grass,JFB

British Open golf betting offers a unique opportunity to experience sport at its tradition rich best without the mind numbing senses assault of such other events like the Super Bowl or NBA Finals. The British Open is all about tradition, respect, and an event that takes us back to a better time when sport was about sport, without the contrived mix of entertainment and marketing.

This year’s British Open golf betting will take place from Royal Lytham St. Anne in Lancashire, England on July 19-22, 2012 with 600 FedEx Cup points on the line and a total purse of $8 million. Northern Ireland’s own Darren Clarke is the defending champion. Officially referred to as “The Open,” the tournament alternates between England and Scotland and has various old historic courses that are unlike any others on the PGA Tour. Thus year’s British Open from Royal Lytham is the first to be held on that course since 2001 when David Duval took the crown.

Clarke was the third different winner in as many years after Padraig Harrington won back to back Opens in 2007 and 2008, which followed Tiger Woods winning back to back in 2005 and 2006. Clarke won last year at the Royal St. George’s Golf Club. Woods was the last American to win the event as the United States dominated with 10 wins in 12 years from 1995 through 2006.

Among the early futures favorites to win The Open would be Lee Westwood, who was the number one ranked golfer on the Official World Golf Ranking in 2010 for a period of 22 weeks and has been in the top 5 since that time. Westwood gets a lot of love and press but the fact remains he has never won a Major Championship with a best finish of 2nd at the 2010 Masters and 2nd in the 2010 Open. His dominance has been on the European Tour. Westwood enters 2012 ranked 2nd on the Official World Golf Ranking behind Luke Donald.

Donald, like Westwood, is an Englishman and has split time between the PGA and European Tours. Like Westwood, Donald is yet to win a Major as his best finish was 3rd in both the 2005 Masters and 2006 PGA Championship. He was voted the 2011 PGA Tour Player of the Year and was the leading money winner. Donald and Westwood will be among the favorites to win this year’s British Open.

If you have kids, then you’ve probably done the family vacation to Disney World or Disneyland, and you might have taken a few trips to visit grandma and grandpa while trying to convince yourself that it was a “vacation.” But when was the last time you took a vacation that you really wanted to take? That’s right; we are talking about an ultimate golf vacation at some of the finest courses around the world. It used to be that you either had to spend hours of your time trying to make all the arrangements yourself, or pay a hefty markup for a travel agent to do it even if he or she had virtually no experience in setting up golf travel packages. But now with a company like GolfTours.com, you can get an expertly-planned golf package at a price that might be lower than you think. When it comes to international golf vacations, there are literally hundreds of different options. Let’s start with the “Big Three” obvious ones: an Ireland golf vacation, a Scotland golf trip or an England golf travel package. You just can’t go wrong with any of those places, where the game of golf was invented and then developed over the centuries. You can play iconic courses like The Old Course at St. Andrews, Muirfield Golf Course, Carnoustie, The Old Course at Royal Troon, The K Club’s Palmer Course, Celtic Manor or Royal St. George’s among others. Just imagine how jealous your friends and colleagues will be when you tell them you are taking a St. Andrews golf vacation or that you just booked a Celtic Manor golf travel package. If you’ve already done some golfing in the United Kingdom or just want to try something different, then you might consider a Valderrama golf vacation as part of a golf tour of Spain and Portugal. Or if you really want to rack up the frequent flier miles, you can reserve a South Africa golf travel package that includes courses like The Links at Fancourt and Royal Johannesburg. If you don’t want to have to rummage through your desk to find that passport, you can also book plenty of great golf travel packages in the United States, like a Pebble Beach golf vacation including rounds at Spyglass Hill and the Links at Spanish Bay, or a Pinehurst golf trip or Bandon Dunes golf travel package. And if you want to spend some time on the beach when you are not on the links, then check out a Hawaii golf vacation with a couple rounds at the Plantation Course of Kapalua Resort. If it’s going to be your vacation, the choice of courses should be up to you.
